I received my Early Childhood Education Diploma from Langara College in 2002. I have had the privilege of spending 15 years as part of a successful preschool team operated by an East Vancouver community centre before joining Little People’s in 2018. I am also certified as an Infant/Toddler Educator and a Special Needs Educator. Prior to entering the early learning field, I studied at UBC and graduated with a B.A. in Psychology.
I love teaching preschool! I love to be able to create a fun and light-hearted environment where children can grow, learn, play, discover, create, and imagine! Through a play-based approach with a variety of materials and opportunities, children will be encouraged to take ownership of their own learning, at their own pace.
I am fluent in spoken Cantonese. I love to read, cook, bake, experiment with indoor gardening, and practice soccer moves with Marley, our teenaged toy poodle. In my remaining free time, I create felt stories and resources to use in the classroom, and to share with fellow Educators. I am a big fan of the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team, and am also an avid aquarist, caring for tropical fish that include cory cats and loaches.
I am thrilled to be a part of Little People’s Community Preschool and look forward to meeting and working with your family!
Born and raised in Metro Vancouver B.C., Teacher Laura has been guiding young children in the Early Learning Environment for the past nine years. She received her Early Childhood Education with Pacific Rim Early Childhood Institute and holds her ‘certificate to practice’ as an Early Childhood Educator. During the Spring/Summer months of 2020, Teacher Laura explored professional development and reflection, attending a variety of profound and dynamic online workshops hosted by Westcoast Child Care Resource Centre. Some workshop highlights include: ‘Exploring the Revised Early Learning Framework’, “Intro to Zones of Regulation”, “Connections to Nature” and “Cultivating Calm in Child Care”.
In addition to Early Childhood, Teacher Laura is a registered ‘Music Together’ teacher and has had the delightful honour of guiding families with young children at West Side Music Together over a combination of eight years. Since Summer 2020, Teacher Laura guides community music making with WSMT Online. She has an extensive background/training in the performing arts and is a (RYT) 500hr Yoga teacher with certifications in Yoga for Kids, Restorative Yoga and Yoga Outreach. Combining her passion for the creative arts and yoga, Teacher Laura is currently in the process of creating an online platform, sharing yoga with young children through creativity, imagination and mindfulness.
Teacher Laura is joy-filled to embark on her third year with Little People’s Community Preschool, as she strives to provide children with endless opportunities to imagine, create and explore their unique creative expression.
Paula grew up in the Okanagan Valley where she first discovered her strong connection with nature and her absolute love for child care. She then followed her bliss and became an Early Childhood Educator. She has now resided in Vancouver for 15 years and has the privilege to live, work and play on Musqueam land.
Paula has been involved in the E.C.E. community for the past 20 years. She has participated in the Reggio Emilia study group in Italy as well as The Wonder of Learning in both Vancouver and Seattle. She obtained her Rainbow Kids Yoga certification in 2017 and participated in the National Geographic learning framework this past year. Most currently, Paula attended the annual ECEBC conference. Both her personal and professional development are integral to the enhancement of her growth as an educator.
Paula has the honour of being a mom which has merged her love of teaching with the soul refining experience of parenting. Her deep respect for children is exhibited through active listening, mindful exploration and playing to learn. She believes in providing fun, inclusive, and collaborative environments, rich with opportunities for loving and learning.
Paula feels enthusiastic to be joining the Little People’s Preschool community. She looks forward to growing together with its children and families. Creating and nurturing meaningful relationships is a source of immense joy and gratitude in her life.
Connie was born in China, and came to Vancouver in 2007. Before becoming an early childhood educator, she graduated from UBC with a B.A. in Economics and also studied 2D Design at Emily Carr.
Having a son while studying Early Childhood Education and the subsequent years of taking care of him, has given Conny not only a better understanding of young children, but also the chance to substitute teach in various childcare centres, teach Mandarin to children and adults, and work at Stepping Stone Preschool with teacher Laura. In 2019, she completed her ECE certificate at Pacific Rim Early Childhood Institute.
Conny enjoys teaching and playing with children of all ages. Exploring with children gives her the opportunity to see our world from a different perspective. Their curiosity and passion in learning everything around them is very valuable to her. Conny likes to share her knowledge and experience with children, and to create a safe and interesting environment for them to explore, try everything and have fun!
In her free time, Conny loves reading, baking, making textiles and crafts, playing lego, and cycling. She is so looking forward to meeting you and hopes you can spend a great time together at Little People’s Community Preschool!
